Our partners

The research team is made up of building physicists, specialists in building recording, building restoration and monument preservation, timber construction engineers, material scientists, architects, art historians and restorers in the trade. The three project partners RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg and Hessenpark Open Air Museum have joined forces for the interdisciplinary research.

RheinMain University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden (HSRM)

RheinMain University of Applied Sciences is coordinating the project and contributing its expertise in building surveys, building physics and timber construction. The Building Research Laboratory uses modern technologies to create digital building models and analyzes the building fabric using non-destructive testing methods. The Timber Construction Laboratory conducts research into timber and composite construction systems, adhesive joints and building physics, as well as material compatibility and damage analysis, and develops practical solutions for timber frame renovation.

Hessenpark Open-Air Museum

The Hessenpark Open-Air Museum is providing historical half-timbered buildings as test objects for the project. The Fachwerk Competence Center contributes many years of experience in the restoration and maintenance of half-timbered buildings as well as knowledge of historical materials and techniques and supports the implementation and evaluation of the restoration measures. With its workshops and experienced specialists, the museum also offers optimal conditions for practical testing and the communication of research results.

Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU CS)

BTU is contributing its expertise in building physics and building technology to the project. The Department of Building Physics and Building Technology is investigating the hygrothermal properties of building materials and constructions, particularly in connection with interior insulation systems. In addition, the BTU analyzes the behavior of half-timbered walls under various climatic and structural conditions and develops energy-efficient renovation concepts. The Department of Energy Management supplements this with life cycle analyses and life cycle assessments to evaluate the sustainability of building materials and construction methods.
