Research facilities

In the late 1980s, research was already being conducted at the Hessenpark Open-Air Museum on thermal insulation for exposed half-timbered walls. The three buildings, which were fitted with experimental insulation systems at that time, are once again available for research. After the condition of the various systems installed at that time was assessed, several sections have now been fitted with new insulation systems and measurement technology. In addition, test stands for determining driving rain penetration into joints have been set up on the museum grounds in front of the fruit storage building from Trendelburg.

At BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and at the Chamber of Crafts Training Center in Münster, half-timbered walls have been fitted with some of the insulation systems used at Hessenpark. Extensive measurement sensors have also been installed there. The results of the measurements taken there are intended to aid in the development, validation, and transferability to other locations as part of the simulation calculations.
